NAHEP - Green and Clean Campus Awards (2021-2022)

A Green Campus is a place where environmental friendly practices and education combine to promote sustainable and eco-friendly practices. The green campus concept offers an institution an opportunity to take a lead in redefining its environmental concern and develop new paradigms by creating sustainable solutions to environmental and social needs of the inhabitants.
For ideal educational institutional buildings, it is imperative to put in place sustainable environmental management in terms of green cover, solid, liquid and e-waste management, rain water harvesting, water and energy conservation, waste reuse and recycling, to cite a few.
Greening the campus is all about turning around wasteful inefficiencies and using conventional sources of energies for its daily energy needs, correct disposal handling, procurement of environment friendly supplies and effective recycling program. Institute has to work out the time bound strategies to implement green campus initiatives. These strategies need to be incorporated into the institutional planning and budgeting processes with the aim of developing a clean and green campus.

A. Green Campus emphasizes on the following aspects

  1. Greenery to provide pollution free air and carbon sink.
  2. A clean campus.
  3. Minimise - waste and consumption of water and energy.
  4. Adoption and deployment of environment - friendly activities.
  5. Impact of use of digital technology and management to reduce consumption of natural/non renewable resources - paper, gas, water, energy etc.

B. Eligibility Criteria

  • All partners in NAHEP with financial Utilization of 50% by Call-1 and Call-2 AUs as of March 31st, 2022. No restriction for Call-3 and Call-4 AUs with respect to financial utilization.

C. Details of Awards

  • Number of Awards: 3 + 1 consolation prize
  • A citation and cash award of
    1st Prize: INR 10.0 lakhs
    2nd Prize: INR 8.0 lakhs
    3rd Prize: INR 6.0 lakhs
    Consolation prize: INR 4.0 lakhs
  • Last date of submission of proposals: 11th July 2022 12.00 am.

D1. Evaluation of Green and Clean Campus - Guidelines

Documents verification

The reports accompanying the applications are essentially the documentation of activities by applicant universities. These reports are examined and reviewed thoroughly against the pre-determined criteria.

Site Visit by Screening Committee

Site visits may be conducted by the screening committee of the top five shortlisted universities (that have attained the maximum score) and activities and other details mentioned in the report will be verified. Besides, Interaction and discussion with faculty, student and staff etc for their involvement in conducting the activities.

D2. General Instructions

  1. The applicant AUs for the award will be required to submit their applications only on line and also upload in NAHEP website that will be accessible to the applicants through a link : GREEN CLEAN CAMPUS AWARD
  2. The online submission will start from June 1st, 2022 and close on 11th July 2022 12.00 am
  3. The applications shall be supported with evidences as attachments wherever necessary.
  4. The parameter acts and legal compliances is restricted to the level of compliances and adherence to the environmental sustainability plan commited by the partners in the DPR.
  5. The competition is not restricted to the main campus alone and the AUs can submit their application for any campus of the constituent colleges provided they are accredited by the ICAR. However, one AU should submit only one application.
  6. An AU bestowed with clean and green campus award of the NAHEP in the past, will not be eligible for contesting for the award again during the project period.
